What is StartHere?

StartHere, a national charity, works with public and voluntary sector organisations to improve access to information and services, especially for socially disadvantaged and digitally excluded groups.

StartHere provides a technology-based information service, also called StartHere, that acts as a single starting point from where people can access the information and services they need in times of crisis or distress.

It provides information on a wide range of health, care-related and other social issues, and quickly directs users to the most relevant organisations and services that can help, whether statutory or voluntary, both nationally and in their local area.

The service is delivered through our partners and runs on a number of platforms including the internet, digital TV, touch-screen kiosks, stand-alone PCs and mobile phones.

The uniqueness of the StartHere service is based on four key principles:

• Signposting to local and national organisations
• Simple to use and highly accessible
• Reliable, up-to-date information
• Complementary to existing services such as Directgov and NHS Choices.

StartHere makes not knowing where to turn a thing of the past.
